Privacy Policy

Purchase Memory is a product by Jiwalu. This Privacy Policy explains what information Purchase Memory processes, why it is processed, where it is stored, and the choices available to you.

Purchase Memory is designed as a local-first personal purchase history. The core purpose of the app is to help you remember what you bought, where you bought it, and when. Your plaintext personal purchase history is primarily stored on your device rather than maintained by us as a central plaintext purchase database.

1. Information stored locally on your device

Purchase Memory may store the following information locally on your device:

• purchase records and purchase items;
• product names, normalized product information, brands, categories, sources, and merchants;
• dates, prices, order identifiers, notes, and other purchase metadata that you choose to save;
• original receipts, invoices, screenshots, PDFs, and other attachments that you choose to keep;
• local search indexes, matching information, and application preferences.

This local data remains on your device unless a feature you explicitly use requires cloud processing or cloud backup as described below.

2. Account and authentication information

You can use the core local features of Purchase Memory without signing in. If you choose to create or connect a cloud account, Purchase Memory supports Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In.

Google Sign-In

When you sign in with Google, Google may provide Purchase Memory with information such as your Google account identifier, email address, display name, and basic profile information, depending on the permissions you grant and the information available from Google.

We use Google Sign-In information only to:

• authenticate you and maintain your Purchase Memory account;
• associate your account with subscription and entitlement status;
• associate supported cloud backup and restore metadata with your account;
• provide account recovery, security, and support functions.

We do not use Google account information for advertising, and we do not sell Google user data.

Sign in with Apple

When you sign in with Apple, Apple may provide an account identifier, name, and email address, including a private relay email address if you choose to hide your email. We use this information for the same account, subscription, security, and cloud-service purposes described above.

3. Device and operational information

To operate account-scoped services, enforce quotas, maintain reliability, and prevent abuse, Purchase Memory may process limited operational information such as:

• device installation identifier;
• platform, app version, locale, and last-seen timestamps;
• receipt-import quota usage;
• subscription and entitlement state;
• request timestamps, provider/model telemetry, error information, and security logs.

Operational usage records are designed not to contain your full plaintext purchase history, raw receipt contents, or item names unless temporarily required to perform a feature you requested.

4. Receipt import and document processing

When you choose to import a receipt, Purchase Memory may perform text recognition on your device and send the receipt image together with OCR-derived text or layout information to our backend for document understanding.

Purchase Memory currently uses Google Gemini as an AI processing provider for receipt understanding. Receipt images and OCR-derived information may therefore be transmitted to Google for the purpose of producing a structured receipt draft.

The structured result may include merchant name, purchase date, item names, quantities, prices, discounts, tax, and totals. The result is presented as a draft for your review. You are expected to review and confirm the extracted information before saving it as part of your local purchase history.

Receipt-processing requests are intended to be temporary processing. We do not use the receipt extraction pipeline to create a permanent central plaintext archive of your receipts or purchase history on our backend.

5. Product and merchant intelligence

Purchase Memory may use privacy-minimized product, merchant, alias, identifier, or receipt-format signals to improve matching and document understanding. We aim to separate reusable product or format knowledge from personal purchase context such as your private purchase date, order ID, notes, or complete purchase history.

6. Purchase Memory Cloud Backup

Cloud Backup is a Pro feature and is disabled by default. Signing in does not automatically enable backup and does not automatically upload your local Purchase Memory data.

If you explicitly enable Cloud Backup, Purchase Memory may back up:

• purchase and purchase-item data;
• local product, merchant, brand, category, source, and matching data;
• receipt, invoice, screenshot, PDF, and other supported attachments.

Backup data is encrypted on your device before upload. The backend is designed to store encrypted entity payloads, encrypted attachment objects, and the minimum metadata needed to coordinate backup and restore, such as user/account identifiers, device installation identifiers, versions, checksums, timestamps, storage references, and deletion markers.

Purchase Memory Cloud is not designed to maintain your cloud backup as a central plaintext Purchase or Purchase Item database.

7. Restore and backup control

If an existing cloud backup is associated with your account on a new installation, Purchase Memory may offer you the choice to restore it or start fresh. Starting fresh does not automatically delete or overwrite the existing cloud backup while Cloud Backup remains disabled.

If you later enable backup while an older cloud backup exists, Purchase Memory may offer a restore-and-merge option before allowing you to replace the existing backup. Replacing an existing cloud backup is treated as a destructive action and requires explicit confirmation.

Disabling Cloud Backup stops new automatic backup activity but does not by itself delete the existing cloud backup. Deleting a cloud backup is a separate action.

Cloud restore currently requires an active Pro subscription. If Pro has expired, you may need to subscribe again before restoring an existing Purchase Memory Cloud backup. Cloud-backup retention after subscription expiry may be limited and will be disclosed in the product when the retention policy is finalized.

8. Subscriptions and billing

Purchase Memory may offer Free and Pro plans. Billing may be handled by Apple, Google, or another supported billing provider. We may receive billing-related metadata such as transaction identifiers, subscription status, renewal period, cancellation state, and product identifiers needed to provide subscription entitlements.

We do not receive or store your full payment card details when payment is processed by an app store or third-party billing provider.

9. Third-party service providers

We may use third-party service providers only as reasonably necessary to operate Purchase Memory. Categories of providers may include:

• Google for Google Sign-In and Gemini document processing;
• Apple for Sign in with Apple and Apple platform services;
• app-store or payment providers for subscription billing;
• cloud infrastructure, database, object-storage, monitoring, security, and email/support providers.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. We aim to send only the information necessary for the service being performed.

10. How we use information

We process information to provide and improve Purchase Memory, including to authenticate accounts, extract receipt data, provide search and matching support, enforce receipt-import quotas, manage subscriptions, operate optional encrypted cloud backup and restore, maintain security, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and provide support.

We do not sell your personal data and do not use your purchase history for third-party advertising.

11. Data retention

Local purchase data remains on your device until you delete it, uninstall the app in a way that removes its data, or otherwise erase the device data.

Account, subscription, billing, security, and operational records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, accounting, security, fraud-prevention, and support requirements.

Cloud backup data may be retained while your backup is available. A specific retention period after Pro expiry has not yet been finalized; once finalized, Purchase Memory will disclose the applicable retention behavior before relying on it for deletion.

12. Account deletion, local data deletion, and cloud backup deletion

These are separate actions:

• Delete Account affects your cloud identity and associated account-scoped information, subject to legal and billing retention requirements.
• Delete Local Data removes purchase history and attachments stored on the current device.
• Delete Cloud Backup removes the cloud backup according to the backup deletion flow.

Deleting your cloud account does not automatically mean that local purchase history on your device has been deleted.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the service. Supported cloud backups are encrypted before leaving the device, backend access is restricted, and private backup attachments are stored using non-public storage mechanisms. No system can guarantee absolute security.

14. International processing

Some service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we take reasonable steps to use providers and safeguards appropriate to the applicable data-protection requirements.

15. Children's privacy

Purchase Memory is not directed to children below the minimum age required to consent to digital services in their jurisdiction without appropriate parental or guardian authorization.

16. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Purchase Memory evolves. We will update the date at the top of this page and provide additional notice when required for material changes.
